Assistant Fire Chief Robert J. Bertone

Dave NilioAssistant Chief Robert J. Bertone is the Assistant Chief for Emergency Management and Planning for the Coral Springs Fire Department. He has served the City of Coral Springs since 1991, and has over forty years of experience in fire and emergency services. Chief Bertone is a nationally certified Incident Safety Officer, Fire Officer II, Fire Inspector I/II, Plans Examiner I, and Search and Rescue Technician III. He is also a State of Florida certified Paramedic, Pump Operator, Fire Officer I & II, Fire Instructor III, Fire Investigator I, and Fire Inspector I/II. Chief Bertone is an American Heart Association Basic and Advanced Life Support Instructor. He has been a training consultant to the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force and Border Patrol. He is nationally certified in Homeland Security, and has completed the FEMA- EMI Professional Development Program in Emergency Management. He is a certified Terrorism Liaison Officer and trainer for the Florida State Department of Emergency Management.
          Chief Bertone has over 28 years of teaching and curriculum development experience, including seven years as a clinical instructor in Pharmacology and Toxicology at the State University of Buffalo Medical School. He served as Chief of the Coral Springs Fire and EMT Academy from 2006 thru 2010. He has a Bachelor degree in Science and has completed numerous advanced courses with the National Fire Academy. Chief Bertone currently serves on several statewide committees, including the Safety Officer Certification Program development committee for the Florida State Fire College, and the Safety and Health Committee of the Florida Fire Chiefs Association. He served two terms on the Board of the Florida Fire Training Directors Association. He was selected as the Union Firefighter of the Year by Local 3080, IAFF in 2004.
