BizArt Festival on Sunday, March 4
BizArtThe City of Coral Springs, along with the Art and Retail Coalition, are proud to present the first annual BizArt Festival on Sunday, March 4 from noon to 4 p.m. The festival, which will take place in the lot next to City Hall South at 9530 W. Sample Road, will feature live bands, face painting, food trucks, a free trolley to see the new Sculpture on Sample display along Sample Road and much more. Visitors will have a chance to cast their vote for their favorite Sculpture on Sample art piece. The Public Art Committee will take the feedback received into consideration when purchasing a piece for permanent display. The event is free and parking will be available at the Financial Plaza and City Hall South. Anyone interested in volunteering for or sponsoring the event should call 954-344-1162. Service hours will be provided to students.

OurTownAmerica Festival - Friday, March 9 through Sunday, March 11
The three-day arts, entertainment and business festival will run Friday, March 9 through Sunday, March 11 at the Sportsplex, 2575 Sportsplex Drive. This year's OurTownAmerica theme was designed to inform the community about OurTownAmerica's dual purpose: to provide a fun festival for the whole family, while raising funds for programs and services of community not-for-profit organizations. Enjoy live entertainment, a food court, amusements, arts and crafts, merchant booths, classic car show, games, and the traditional Miss OurTown America Beauty Pageant. As always, festival admission is free, but there is a $5 parking fee per car.

Waterway Cleanup on Saturday, March 10
Now in its 16th year in Coral Springs, this year’s Waterway Cleanup is set for March 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Riverside Park, 205 Coral Ridge Drive. Mayor Roy Gold, a longtime environmental activist, leads the Coral Springs site each year. Coral Springs is known for having one of the largest cleanup sites in Broward County, attracting an average of 400 volunteers annually who pulled out trash and other items from the waterways. Participants do not need to pre-register to attend. Students will receive volunteer hours.

Prescription Drug Collection on Saturday, March 10
As part of the City's initiative to target and deter the use of illicit prescription drug use within our City, the Coral Springs Police Department is hosting a prescription drug collection on Saturday, March 10 from 9 to 11 a.m. Residents are asked to drop off any unused, unwanted or expired prescription medication at Publix, located at 5810 Coral Ridge Drive. Coral Springs Festival of the Arts 2012
FestivalCelebrate St. Patrick's Day at the Coral Springs Festival of the Arts with Irish music, bagpipes, Leprechauns and a cake decorating challenge that depicts South Florida with an Irish Twist.  On March 17 and 18 The Eighth Annual Coral Springs Festival of the Arts will be held at The Walk on University Drive with artists, crafters, musical entertainment, literary seminars, chalk artists, a children's area and much, much more.

The stars of the show are always the 200 plus artists and crafters from around the country presented by Howard Alan Events, Ltd.  Howard Alan is the premier Art Festival promoter in the country and produces over 45 shows from coast to coast.  This year's featured art piece is Covered Bridge by Coral Springs own Ezi Algazi.  Originally from Egypt, Ezi has showcased paintings all over the world.

St. Patty's Day will feature music of both the green and the orange. Irish music will be played by Avalon, followed by the House of Winston Pipe Band.  Visit Mythos to see South Florida's only Cake Decorating Challenge. 

Don't think the fun stops on Saturday. Sunday features The Last Flight Out, a 19-piece Big Band orchestra and oldies band, Eclipse.  Kilwins Ice Cream will hold an ice cream contest at 1:45 p.m. Be the first one to finish a quart of ice cream and win a $150 prize.

Throughout the weekend, South Florida authors will be speaking in Barnes & Noble about their published works.  This year's workshops have been designated as part of  "The Big Read," an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts, in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and in cooperation with Arts Midwest, designed to restore reading to the center of American culture.

 The Children's area will feature puppet shows, sing-a-longs, crafts by The Coral Springs Museum of Art, and the ever-popular bubble wrap dance.

A free trolley will make parking a breeze for those who park at The Coral Springs Center for the Arts.

Slice of the Springs on Thursday, March 22
Slice of the Springs meetings allow residents to interface directly with staff members from all sectors of the City, including police, fire, community development and code enforcement. The meeting for the Northside and Northeast slices will take place at 7 p.m. Coral Park Elementary, 8401 Westview Drive. Can't make the meeting? No problem. Catch replays on CityTV, channel 25 on Advanced Cable Communication or channel 99 on AT&T's U-Verse. You can also stream it online here. Data from the Slice meetings also will be made available online, including crime, fire and code enforcement statistics.

Free Family Concert on March 24
Come sit under the stars and enjoy music with your family and friends at the City's free Family Concert Series. Blue Fire Band will feature country music on Saturday, March 24. The concert begins at 7 p.m. at Betti Stradling Park. Parking and admission is free. Blankets, lawn chairs and coolers are welcome, and refreshments will be available for purchase. Kid's Tennis Carnival and Play Day on March 24
Children are invited to come out to the Tennis Center of Coral Springs for a Kid's Tennis Carnival and Play Day on Saturday, March 24th from 1 to 3 p.m. Children from 5 to 12 years old are invited to come out and take a swing at tennis. Participants will use the new Quickstart format, which includes a low compression ball, lower nets and shorter courts. Tennis racquets will be provided and there is no fee involved. Children who have never played tennis can learn quickly under this format. Children who have previous experience can also participate in the Play Day, where they will play competitive games. The City’s USPTA certified Tennis Professionals will be conducting all activities. Participants must register in advance by calling 954-344-1840. Information on all of the City’s tennis programs and summer camps taking place at both Cypress Park and the Tennis Center will be provided. Teen Success Day on Thursday, March 29
High school students will have the opportunity to attend the Teen Success Day on Thursday, March 29 at 12:30 p.m. at the Coral Springs Gymnasium, 2501 Coral Springs Drive. Teen Success Day, a joint effort between the City and Kiwanis of Coral Springs, will assist teens in polishing their presentation when applying to prospective employers for a job. The seminar will focus on resume writing, interviewing skills, how to dress for an interview and other important skills, as well as focus on volunteerism. Papa John's will be donating pizza. Trash to Treasure Garage Sale on March 31
Vendor Spaces are now available for the Trash to Treasure Garage Sale, to be held at Mullins Park on Saturday, March 31 from 8 to 11 a.m. This popular event offers a great opportunity to buy or sell household and other items. Vendor spaces are $25 before March 4, $35 between March 5 and March 18, and $45 thereafter. Also needed is a separate $30 deposit check that will be returned after the event if the space is clean. Teen Political Forum on April 2
The Teen Political Forum, brought to you by the City of Coral Springs, will be open to local high school students on Monday, April 2. This educational event will be held at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The purpose of this Forum is to have city and county elected officials enlighten students with their personal experiences as elected officials and address teen issues of interest, concluding with a Q & A from the student audience. This is a great opportunity for students to talk directly to their elected officials on topics that are significant to them. The event is open to all high school students who live in Coral Springs or who attend our local high schools: Coral Springs High, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High, Coral Glades High, Coral Springs Charter, J. P. Taravella High and Coral Springs Christian Academy. Students may receive service hours for attending the Forum. JUDY COLLINS - March 28 at 7:30 p.m.
Judy Collins has thrilled audiences worldwide with her unique blend of interpretative folksongs and contemporary themes. Her impressive career has spanned more than 50 years. Judy is noted for her rendition of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" on her 1967 album, Wildflowers which has since been entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Winning "Song of the Year" at the 1975 Grammy Awards was Judy's version of "Send in the Clowns," a ballad written by Stephen Sondheim for the Broadway musical "A Little Night Music." She is a contemporary of Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Dave Van Ronk and other folk luminaries like Carole King, Joni Mitchell and Carly Simon. Judy has continued an impressive musical career with an extensive catalog from every decade throughout the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and up to the present.

Extended hours at City Hall in the Mall
Starting March 1 through the end of May, City Hall in the Mall will be offering extended passport hours every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at their office located at the Coral Square Mall. City Hall in the Mall will continue to provide their customary services at the Coral Square Mall as a convenient location for passport services, available Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10.00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Passports are now being offered in two forms: a Passport book (air, sea or land border travel) or a wallet-size U.S. Passport card (for land border and sea travel only). The price for a passport book is $135 for adults and $105 for children, age 15 years or younger. The wallet-sized card costs $55 for adults and $40 for children, age 15 years or younger. Please note that these fees must be paid in two separate checks, with $25 payable to the City of Coral Springs and the remainder to the U.S. Department of State. Passport applications may also be submitted at Citizens' Service in City Hall, 9551 W. Sample Road, weekdays from 8 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. This location does not offer passport photo services. WorldFest on Sunday, April 15
Mark your calendars for Sunday, April 15 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.as the Sixth Annual WorldFest Celebration gets into full swing at the Sportsplex, 2575 Sportsplex Drive. Admission to this outdoor festival is free, but there will be a parking fee of $3 per vehicle. This one-day festival, which is a community event, will cover a spectacular array of multi-cultural entertainment, cuisine and culture that salutes the diverse population in the greater Coral Springs area. Delicious cultural foods, live music, arts and crafts, educational activities, and games/amusements for children of all ages will be featured. There will also be special activities for the teens this year. Bring your families and friends for a day of fun and entertainment. Once again, the members of the Multi-Cultural Committee will conduct a Cooking Demonstration where you can sample delicious and unusual food items, with recipes to help you try it on your own. Entertainment from individuals or groups is being sought to showcase different ethnic cultures. There are also still opportunities for event sponsors and vendors for food and arts/crafts.
