Captain Maslan began his career with the Coral Springs Police Department in 1979. Captain Maslan was assigned to Road Patrol until his transfer to the Criminal Investigations Unit in 1980 where he served as a Detective. In 1982, Captain Maslan was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Throughout his 16 years as Sergeant he served as the Staff Inspections Sergeant, as well as supervising a variety of units including Patrol, Communications, Records, Community Involvement, Training, Humane, and Traffic. Since 1987, he also served as the department’s Public Information Officer and the Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Coral Springs. In 1998, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and was assigned to Patrol as a district commander, and later as a shift commander. He now serves as Captain of the Community Services Component that includes the Youth Liaison Unit, Community Involvement Unit, and the Office of Emergency Management.
Captain Maslan holds a Master in Public Administration Degree from Florida Atlantic University, a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Florida Atlantic University, and an Associate Science Degree in Fire Science from Broward Community College. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Command Officers Development Course held by Southern Police Institute of Louisville, Kentucky and of the Senior Leadership Program of the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute. He is also certified by the State of Florida as an emergency manager. Captain Maslan is an active member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and Florida Emergency Preparedness Associations. Captain Maslan is a Senior Examiner of the Governor Sterling Quality Council and assessor and a team leader of the national Emergency Management Accreditation Program. Captain Maslan also serves as the chair of the Joint Information Committee of the Southeast Regional Domestic Security Task Force and a vice chair of the Broward County Emergency Coordinating Council.
