Community Involvement Commendation

Community Involvement

A red, white, and red award bar and certificate. This award is issued to a Department member who, outside their normal duties, assists or becomes part of an organization, project, event, or charitable function in which they give their time and skills toward the betterment of the community and/or its citizens.

Community Policing Award

Community Policing

A blue, white, and green (city colors) award bar and certificate. This award is issued to a department member(s) who conducts a comprehensive project that benefits the community and/or the Department by enhancing the quality of life, increasing safety, or lowering/combating crime. Projects submitted for review must be accompanied by documentation representing the six- step problem-solving model:

  • Identify or Select Problem
  • Analyze the Problem Generate Potential Solutions
  • Select and Plan Solution Implement the Solution
  • Evaluate the Solution

Administrative Service Commendation

Administrative Service

A green and yellow award bar and certificate. This award is issued for development of a new system, policy, idea, or program which has assisted in budget control, the improved efficiency of a unit or the Department, bettered the police image or morale, or otherwise improved community relations for the Coral Springs Police Department.

Exceptional Police Initiative Commendation

Exceptional Police Initiative

A white, green and white award bar and certificate. This award is issued for a prudent act, which substantially contributes to a valuable police accomplishment and demonstrates exceptional initiative beyond the duties and scope of the Department members' job description. The act(s) must have demonstrated competence and efficiency beyond that reasonably expected of a Department member.

Exceptional Support Initiative Commendation

Exceptional Support

A white, orange, and white award bar and certificate. This award is issued for a prudent act, which substantially contributed to a valuable accomplishment beyond the duties and scope of the Department members' job description. The action taken must provide considerable benefit to the furtherance of any investigation, police service or departmental goal or objective.

Lifesaving Commendation

Lifesaving

A red, white and blue award bar and certificate. This award is issued for competent and expedient action, which is directly responsible for sustaining or saving a human life, or an act, which removes a person from a situation, which would have resulted in their imminent death. The death of the victim after release to medical personnel shall not preclude nomination. Also, the action of the nominee must not have contributed to the death of the victim.

Meritorious Police Duty Commendation

Meritorious Police Duty

A blue, white, and blue award bar and certificate. This award is issued for a prudent and heroic act where a hazard, risk of injury, or death to the nominee or other must have existed.

Police Combat Commendation

Police Combat

A blue and red award bar, medal in presentation case, and certificate. This award is issued to a member as a result of being exposed to an armed adversary involving danger and great personal risk to that member. The Department member must have used good judgment and followed proper policies and procedures to be eligible.

Team Citation Award

Team Citation

Deep hunter green award and certificate. Numerical brass or chrome as applicable. This award is issued to all members who actively participated in a team, squad, or task force whose focus was to accomplish a specific project. Specific documentation must show the team not only accomplished their goal, but exceeded it noting those derived benefits to the citizens and/or Department personnel.

Valor Commendation

A red, with silver or gold star award bar, medal in presentation case, and certificate. This award is issued to members who distinguish themselves by the performance of an act of courage involving risk of imminent danger to their life, with knowledge of the risk. The act must have been performed for the purpose of saving or protecting human life.

Unit of the Year Award

Unit of the Year

A solid burgundy award dated with the year issued and certificate. This is issued to a component, unit or squad, which has substantially exceeded its yearly goals and objectives with documented specific examples of the positive effect on the community. The same component is not eligible to receive this award in consecutive years.

Officer Of The Year Award

Officer of the Year

A solid aqua Officer Of The Year Award - A solid aqua certificate. This award is issued to sworn members of the Department who have demonstrated consistent exemplary service to the Department and the community over the course of a given year.

Civilian Employee of the Year Award

Officer of the Year

A solid aqua award bar dated with the year issued and certificate. This award is issued to civilian employees of the Department who have demonstrated consistent exemplary service to the Department and the community over the course of a given year.

Supervisor of the Year Award

Supervisor of the Year

A solid purple award bar dated with the year issued and certificate. This award is issued to sworn or civilian supervisors of the Department who have demonstrated consistent exemplary supervision and leadership to the Department and the community over the course of a given year.

Distinguished Service Award

Distinguished Service

A solid dark blue enamel award bar with number of years recognized in gold or silver centered, medal in a presentation case, and a certificate. This award is issued for more than fifteen years of commendable department service (75% of performance evaluations are commendable or better). Nominator must research and present, in person, to the board documented significant contributions and achievements to the growth and success of the police department and community made by the nominee during their tenure, as well as any past discipline.
