Criminal Identification Unit

The Criminal Identification Unit is a civilian support unit of the police department responsible for crime scene processing, fingerprint identification and the storage of property/evidence. Presently there is one supervisor, four Crime Scene Technicians, one part-time Crime Scene Technician, two Property Technicians, one Latent Print Examiner, and one Office Assistant. During the past year the Crime Scene Technicians have processed approximately 1,000 crime scenes, ranging from burglary to death investigations. Over 10,000 items have been logged into the Property Room.

Normal hours of operation are between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m., seven days a week. A Crime Scene Technician is on call during the non-business hours. On Wednesday of each week, property is released to owners between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
