Public Art - General Information


The City Commission of the City of Coral Springs approved an ordinance creating a Public Art Program on November 18, 2003. The purpose of the program is to create a stimulating environment that reflects and enhances the City’s heritage, diversity, and character through public artworks integrated in the architecture, infrastructure and landscape. Included in the Public Art Program is an art fee for development, redevelopment, or remodeling. Click here to download the Ordinance.


Contributors to the City of Coral Springs Public Art Fund
The money for the City’s public art comes from art fees paid by private developers that do not wish public art on their new or remodeled construction projects greater than 12,500 square feet. For multi-family developments, the property must also be greater than 1 acre. Since the beginning of the Public Art Program in November, 2003, the following property owners have contributed to the Public Art Fund through November 2005.

  • Titleco Building
  • Walgreens: Royal Palm
  • Walgreens: Royal Springs
  • Design Row
  • First Methodist Church
  • Solution Ex

The Public Art Committee
The Public Art Committee is official civic body with 5 members, two alternates and one advisory high school student appointed by the City Commission. The responsibilities of the committee include preparing of the program guidelines and public art plans and the selection of all public artworks for the City of Coral Springs. For private property owners that do provide the public art on their property, the Public Art Committee reviews and approves all public artworks.

The PAC meets every 4th Wednesday of the month at 4:00 PM at City Hall South (9530 West Sample Road). The Community Development Division provides the staff assistance to the Committee.

The Public Art Committee has the following positions:

  • Two (2) individuals from the following disciplines: landscape architecture, urban planning, engineering, or a related design discipline.
  • One (1) professional artist,
  • One (1) private citizen knowledgeable in the field of public art, education or community affairs.
  • One (1) private citizen from the development community,
  • Two (2) alternatives, and
  • One (1) non-voting High School student.

Public Art Documents

In 2005, the City Commission adopted a Public Art Master Plan and Program Guidelines.

The Public Art Master Plan prioritizes five types of public art for the City of Coral Springs:

  • Fountains
  • Sculpture
  • Interactive Art
  • Functional
  • Contemporary Design Integrated Artworks

During 2004-2009, the public art program will focus on providing artworks in the following places:

  • New Downtown around Sample Road and University Drive
  • Entrances to the City
  • Parks
  • Bus Stations and Stops
