 In the Winter and Spring of 2006, the City of Coral Springs developed a conceptual plan for a walkway and bikeway connecting the new Coral Springs Downtown with the city’s major cultural and recreation area, Mullins Park. The intent of the project is to encourage a healthy lifestyle through walking and biking for all ages and to promote the use of walkways, bikeways and buses for the future density of downtown Coral Springs.
In June 2006, the City adopted the “Downtown Pathways Plan” by Sanchez & Maddux of Palm Beach and URGe from New York City. In 2007, the City will design and construction a prototype pathways and develop a schematic design for the entire pathway.
Urban Resources Group (URGe) of New York City and Sanchez & Maddux of Palm Beach completed the following plan in June 2006. Three presentations of the plan are available for download in pdf files.

 Broward County Design Arts Program awarded the city a $15,000 grant to hire a consulting team to work with residents, students, employees, property owners and City staff. The team is Sanchez & Maddux of Palm Beach and URGe from New York City with architects and designers Moji Baratloo, Justin Moore, Andy Moore and Linnaea Tillett. Carolyn Pendelton-Parker is the lead landscape architect from Sanchez & Maddux.
Through community workshops, interviews and feedback in a project steering committee, the consultants will establish goals and provide conceptual design for:
- route(s) and destinations of the walkway including utilization of lakes and canals;
- design attributes including cross section, hardscape, landscape, lighting, shading methods and street furniture;
- public art placement and/or scope as per the Public Art Master Plan;
- safety concerns such as visibility, road crossings and isolation of automotive and pedestrian traffic;
- coordination with transit center and establishment of bus and/or trolley stops;
- exercise system that is coordinated with Coral Springs Medical Center community health program; and
- future methods for development across multiple landownership.
The walkway/bikeway designed by the consultants will be a continuous one-mile path between the new Downtown and Mullins Park. At a minimum, the walkway will be 8 feet wide and continuously shaded. The path will link the existing downtown residents and businesses, future Downtown civic space, Coral Springs Charter School, the NW Broward Regional Library, the Coral Springs Medical Center, the future Downtown Neighborhood Transit Center, St. Andrew Parish School and Church, Parkside Elementary School and the Mullins Park Teen Center, Senior Center, History Museum, Center for the Arts, City Gym, Future City Hall and athletic fields.
