Commissioner Tom Powers
Tom Powers began his political career in seat 5 in November 2008.
Tom was raised in Millbrook, N.Y.. In 1980 Tom moved to Arizona to accept a position with the Arizona State Police where he served in uniform and as a narcotics agent until 2001.
In 2001 Tom’s wife, Teresa, was offered the opportunity to promote and advance her career. The advancement involved transferring from Arizona to Florida. Tom retired and became a stay-at-home dad for their children. Tom and Teresa moved and have embraced the Coral Springs’ way of life. Upon arriving, Tom immediately became involved in the community, continuing his dedication to public service. His volunteerism has included his service as head of the PTO at his children’s school, and as a member of the Coral Springs Education Committee. Tom has coached for the Coral Springs Youth Soccer League, as well as for the baseball and volleyball teams at his children’s school. The City Commission has appointed Tom to the Customer Involved Government Committee. Tom is a board member of the Coral Springs Kiwanis as well a board member of the Kiwanis Foundation.
Tom has been recognized many times throughout his career and service to his community with awards and special recognitions but has found the most pleasure as being a Dad to his three children, Brendon, Danny and Alexis. Tom hopes to continue that priority as a commissioner by working in collaboration with the commission, the city staff , city employees and most importantly the citizens to assure the City of Coral Springs maintains its focus to be the premier city in which to live work and raise a family!
