
Kevin McCarthy
Kevin McCarthy, tennis director for the city of Coral Springs, Fla., has been a certified member of the USPTA since 1978. Kevin has served on the Florida Division board of officers since 1988 and took over the role of president for a two-year term in 1998. He also serves on the USPTA National Education Committee, representing municipal facilities.
A highly ranked junior player from New Jersey, McCarthy attended the University of South Carolina on a tennis scholarship, graduating in1973 with a bachelor’s degree in history. He was ranked No. 1 in singles and doubles for four years and was team captain for two years.
After graduating, McCarthy became the head tennis professional at the Riomar Bay Yacht Club in Vero Beach, Fla. While he was there, he implemented a comprehensive tennis program for 11 years while becoming active as a USPTA member. He also developed and directed the Citrus Bowl Tennis Tournament, a $50,000 prize-money tournament for men and women.

In 1984, Kevin moved to Pompano Beach, Fla., where he took over as tennis director for the city of Pompano Beach. He helped develop a strong junior program over five years and hosted the Continental Cup, the international team tournament for girls. During this time, he also became a district president for the Florida Division of the USPTA.
Kevin took the position as tennis director for the city of Coral Springs, Fla., in 1989. The Cypress Park Tennis Center went from 89 members to 300 during his first two years, as well as having over 200 adults and juniors per week in his group lesson program. The city then built the Tennis Center of Coral Springs in 1993, a 16, red-clay hydrocourt facility that hosted America's Red Clay Championships, an ATP tour event.
Since he has been in Coral Springs, Kevin has been very involved with the USTA, conducting USA 1-2-3 programs, including free lessons, Junior Team Tennis, Ralleyball, and adult leagues. He is also an Honorary Life Member of the USTA.
Russ Meadows is a Florida native, residing in Coral Springs for the past 22 years. He has played competitively and taught tennis in Coral Springs for the past 16 years. He has brought his easy-going manner and expertise to the Tennis Center and Cypress Park for the past 2 years. Russ teaches group and private lessons to juniors and adults as well as working with ladies team practices.
Russ’s off-court interests revolve around music. He has been a rock and roll drummer for the past 15 years, and is currently pursuing life as a guitarist. Russ is 32 years old and single, and hopes to continue in his pursuit of tennis and music for years to come.

Dennis de Rome was born and educated in Sydney Australia and has been teaching tennis for over 30 years. He is a USPTA Professional / certified and most recently was Director of Tennis at The Woodmont Country Club. Dennis is married, has 2 children and has lived in Davie for the past 17 years. According to City Tennis Director Kevin McCarthy, “Dennis is both an outstanding player and instructor, bringing a wealth and experience to our program.”

Mike Witkowski came to Coral Springs from Madison Heights, Michigan. Mike has been USPTA Certified and is also a certified fitness instructor. He coached high school teams in Michigan and was high school coach of the year. He has also developed nationally ranked juniors and traveled with ladies teams. “Mike will be working with our ladies teams as well as our junior development program” according to McCarthy.

Galina Rybakova came to the United States from Russia in 1991. She taught at the Port Washington Academy in New York from 1991-1998 before being an assistant Tennis Professional at The Manhassett Bay Yacht Club until 2002. Galina lives in Coral Springs with her husband Nick, daughter Katie (FSU tennis standout) and son Alex. “Galina has a tremendous amount of teaching experience and will be instrumental in working with ladies teams and junior development.” |
