BLACK OLIVE
(Bucida buceras)

NATIVE

Height : up to 50 ft.
Canopy Spread : 45 ft.

The Black Olive is a commonly planted street tree in South Florida. These trees are also well suited as shade trees for large properties because they form a dense oval crown as they grow older. The fruit of these trees resembles small black olives but are not edible. The fruit produces tannic acid leading to significant staining on man made structures. For this reason Black Olive is recommended only for planting in large open spaces and no longer along roads or in parking areas.
