This uncommon native tree is easily grown in partly sunny exposure and well drained, rich sandy soil. The pinnately compound, leathery evergreen leaves are glossy green above and pale green below. New leaflets are reddish and contrast nicely with the older mature leaves. The trees should be planted well away from any paved surfaces or parked cars since the small purple fruit and seeds will cause lasting stains.
