Sapodilla tolerates a wide variety of soil conditions but prefers well drained sites with full sun exposure. The large roots of mature trees will lift sidewalks and crack driveway pavement if planted too close to these structures. The tree is both extremely drought tolerant and wind resistant.

These trees are native to Central America where the sweet edible fruit is used in a wide variety of dishes. The sap of this tree is a sticky, white latex substance called "chicle". It is used in a wide variety of products including as a base for chewing gum!
