May 19, 2007: City recognizes Joan Kohl for her efforts

The City Commission recognized Joan Kohl from the Sawgrass Nature Center and Wildlife Hospital for winning the Broward County Emerald Award in the NatureScape Special Achievement category. “Her dream of the wildlife center has become a reality only recently, and already she’s winning accolades and awards,” Vice Mayor Gold said. The NatureScape Broward category of the Emerald Award Program recognizes certified business, municipalities, schools, government facilities, and homeowners that have created and maintained landscapes, which are drought tolerant, provide food, water and shelter for wildlife, and utilize integrated pest control/fertilizer practices. “It’s nice that you have a facility that you can now care for all these creatures,” Mayor Brook said. “You’ve done some great work for the community. Thanks for everything you and all your volunteers do. We appreciate it.”
