Fire Chief Mark Curran
The City of Coral Springs has named Mark Curran as Fire Chief. Curran, a City employee for the past twenty-three years, is the former Deputy Fire Chief, and has been serving as the acting fire chief since Don Haupt’s retirement in April.
After an extensive four-month national search, City Manager Mike Levinson announced the appointment on August 3, 2007. “Mark Curran's past performance, current competencies and vision for the future of the Fire Department distinguish him from an exceptional field of candidates,” Levinson said. “His leadership will benefit the men and women of our Fire Department, our organization and our community. I look forward to working with Fire Chief Mark Curran."
“It's a great pleasure to be selected as Fire Chief for one of the best fire departments in Broward County,” Curran said. “I look forward to working with the City Manager, the senior management team, and the City Commissioners. We are heading into challenging times due to proposed tax reform, but we have excellent personnel who, I know, will rise to the challenge and continue providing excellent customer service to the residents of Coral Springs."
Curran majored in Fire Science for his Associate Degree from Broward County Community College, and Professional Management for his Bachelor of Science from Nova Southeastern University.
In his previous capacity as Deputy Chief, Curran was the fire code official, supervised the Fire Inspection Division, Fire Prevention, and the Public Safety Technology Center. He also developed policies and procedures, and controlled budget and expenditures, among other duties.
