Last week I was asked for a July 1992 Forum article about mosquitoes. I have newspapers indexed up to May 2001. I checked the directory and realized there were no clippings from 1992 or 1993. Nor are there any articles from 1975 or 1976; those I can explain.
When I was hired to organize the City collection eight years ago, I rummaged through storage sites for historic objects, photographs and printed materials. In various offices and closets I located dozens of cardboard boxes bulging with prints, local magazines and newsletters, (most now defunct), Coral Ridge Properties’ advertising and plats and City souvenirs and publications. Three banker’s boxes full of newspapers turned up in non-air-conditioned storage sheds and were neatly marked as box 1 of 4, 2 of 4 and 4 of 4. The issues from 1975 and 1976 were in the missing box 3, which was never found. As to what caused papers from 1992 and 1993 to go missing, I have no idea. The account of local activities during those four years is missing.
The majority of the City collection is two-dimensional. The photos, printed matter and maps are invaluable but unexciting in exhibits. The Historical Advisory Committee has mounted two EX
