September 2, 2008: City buses to charge small fare as of October 1

As of October 1, 2008, the City’s Community Buses will charge a .25 cent fee per rider. After 6 years of free service, the City will begin charging to cover expected annual increases related to the fuel cost.

The City’s Community Bus Service runs seven days a week and has two routes. The Blue route circles the south end and includes stops at the City Gymnasium, outside Coral Square Mall and Coral Springs Medical Center. Both the green and blue routes make stops on the hour at the northeast corner of the Sample Road and University Drive intersection, allowing riders to change buses. It takes approximately an hour to make one loop, but please keep in mind that traffic conditions may cause the bus to arrive slightly early or late.

This service could be used in conjunction with connections to Broward County Transit Routes 2, 34, 62, 83 and 88. Riders making the connection with BCT will need to pay the appropriate fares.

Riders are asked to have the exact fare, as bus drivers will not provide change.
