April 11, 2008: Urban Forestry Hurricane Grant assists Coral Springs with tree canopy recovery

After receiving $50,000 from the Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program, the City of Coral Springs replaced over 400 median trees and palms lost during Hurricane Wilma. With the financial and technical support of the US Forest Service, the Florida Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry, and the Florida Legislature, the City was able to plant 15 different types of trees and five varieties of palms throughout the community.

The City of Coral Springs is proud to be certified as a Tree City USA for the past twenty-three years, and a Growth Award recipient for the past eleven years.  This grant is in addition to the $37,500 Urban and Community Forestry funds that helped finance the City’s Street Tree Subsidy program.
