At 7:20 p.m. on Monday May 12th, 2008, Coral Springs Firefighters were called to the scene of an apartment fire at 5761 Riverside Drive. When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of a first floor apartment. Several witnesses told 911 operators and police officers on the scene that there were possibly people still inside the home. Firefighters quickly entered the home to search for anyone still inside. Search crews discovered a two-month-old infant as well as an adult female inside the smoke filled living room and quickly rushed them outside. Coral Springs Fire Department personnel rendered emergency care to both victims. The infant was transported to Coral Springs Medical Center in serious condition. The adult female was transported to North Broward Medical Center in critical condition. The Coral Springs Fire Department along with the State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. The American Red Cross is assisting the family of the fire victims with any housing and clothing needs.
