October 14, 2008: USAR team returns home after Hurricane Ike recovery

Five Coral Springs firefighters, who are part of the Miami-based South Florida Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR), returned home after helping Louisiana and Texas in the aftermath of Hurricane Ike.

The team assisted victims trapped in their homes due to flooding, helped repair two roofs of volunteer fire stations, rescued animals left behind and provided medical assistance to those in need.

“We got to meet great people and help those in need,” Driver/Engineer/PIO Mike Moser said. “We got a lot of experience during this deployment, and we’re ready to help again in the event of a mayor hurricane.”

Coral Springs Fire Department members who assisted in these efforts are Lieutenant Joseph Russoniello, Lieutenant Mike Caldaro, Lieutenant June Ohlrich, Driver/Engineer Kevin Yannayon, Lead Paramedic Sophia Moser and Driver/Engineer/PIO Mike Moser.
