A group of firefighters from the island of Jamaica will be training along side Coral Springs, Margate and North Lauderdale firefighters this week in order to increase their instructor credentials. The firefighters will be participating in a “live burn” on October 14th at the Coral Springs Fire Academy. They will then be riding on Coral Springs, Margate and North Lauderdale fire trucks during the week, and participating in a variety of training exercises, to compare techniques for possible application when they return home. This is a new venture between the island nation and the other Broward County fire departments. The requirements to become a certified fire instructor are much different in the State of Florida. The Jamaica Fire Brigade has chosen to come here to compare and possibly enhance their training, utilizing the resources of the cooperating fire departments. The strict standards for Live Fire Training in Florida are considered the most comprehensive, and the Coral Springs Fire Academy is recognized as one of the state’s leading training centers.. Members of the media are encouraged to attend the live burn. The training burn will be held at the Coral Springs Fire Academy, 4180 NW 120th Avenue, Coral Springs, Tuesday evening from 6 PM till 9 PM.
