The Coral Springs Police Department has completed its internal investigation on the Detective whose dog died in the rear of his police vehicle.
On August 27, 2008 at approximately 2:25pm narcotics detection canine “Hieke” was found dead inside an unmarked police car in the City of Coral Springs. Investigation revealed that the vehicle was not running and the dog succumbed to the heat.
The internal investigation revealed that the Detective did not properly care for his dog and as a result will receive a three-day suspension without pay.
“The Coral Springs Police Department has conducted a thorough investigation of this incident and it is apparent that the dog died due to a tragic oversight on the part of the Detective. The State Attorney’s Office has reviewed the case independently and has also concluded that this was a tragic accident and no criminal charges would be sought. Both agencies agree that this was truly a horrible accident” said Police Chief Duncan Foster.
