March 24, 2008: Amplified Telephones are available for residents suffering of hearing loss

If you are a Florida resident suffering from hearing loss, you are entitled to receive an amplified telephone that will help you hear better, at no cost to you!  Please register by calling 954-345-2209 on or before Monday, April 14, 2008. Once you have registered, you will need to stop by to Sartory Senior Center, located in Mullins Park at 10150 NW 29 Street, on Monday, April 21 at 1 PM to fill out the application and receive the phone.

The telephones, provided by Florida Telecommunications Relay Inc. (FTRI), are being distributed by the League for the Hard of Hearing, a non-profit, participating United Way Agency.  The telephones are funded by a 15-cent surcharge on all Florida telephone bills (land lines only).

One (1) telephone is available per qualified Florida resident. Defective telephones will be replaced at no cost. Residents can travel out of Florida with the equipment for no more than 90 consecutive days. Residents should understand that this equipment is the property of FTRI, and telephones must be returned if they permanently move out of Florida.
