March 19, 2007: Coral Springs wins second place in Cultural Diversity Awards
The City’s annual Eid Celebration was runner-up in the National League of Cities City Cultural Diversity Awards. Following the attacks of September 11, 2001, Coral Springs formed a committee, which included local Muslim neighbors to assist in developing a program to form a friendly partnership with our Muslim community. One outcome of this partnership is the annual Celebration of Eid. The most recent event was titled "Muslims in America: The Truth and Misconceptions" - a fun event of education, friendship and goodwill for the whole community. The event received second place because it demonstrated the enhancement of the quality of life of the community and increased citizen participation in government. On March 12, 2007, award recipients will be recognized during the NLC’s Celebrate Diversity Breakfast during the NLC’s Congressional City Conference. Mayor Scott Brook and Commissioner Vince Boccard will be present at the Conference to accept this award on behalf of the City. “The City would like to thank to the Multi-Cultural Advisory Committee, the Northwest Regional Library and our Muslim community who work together to make this program a success,” Community Relations Manager Joyce Campos said.
