The City Commission proclaimed Saturday, March 8, 2007 as Marine Industries Association of South Florida's Broward Waterway Cleanup Day in Coral Springs. Site Leader, Commissioner Roy Gold said, "This is an exciting site to be a part of for this countywide volunteer cleanup effort. We really would appreciate any volunteers to show up the morning of the event."
“On behalf of the MIASF, I would like to thank Commissioner Gold, the City Commission and the citizens of the City of Coral Springs for your years of outstanding environmental stewardship and dedicated participation in the Waterway Cleanup.“ said Melanie Daily, Public Relations and Event Cordinator of the Broward Waterway Cleanup Program.
The 31st Annual Broward Waterway Cleanup will take place in Coral Springs at Riverside Park, 205 Coral Ridge Drive, on Saturday, March 8 from 9 AM to 12 PM.
For the past 13 years, Coral Springs has participated in the county-wide effort, drawing out more than 450 volunteers last year. Participants will help search the City's waterways for debris. Last year, volunteers found everything from patio umbrellas to furniture.
“It's a commendable achievement and I hope it's a tradition we can keep up this year on March 8th,” Daily added.
Students are eligible to receive volunteer service hours, and event sponsors are being sought.
