The City Commission recognized Nicole Marsala for recently received the distinction of the 2009 Broward County Public Schools Teacher of the Year. She has been teaching eigth grade American History at Coral Springs Middle for the past eight years. She has been a resident of Coral Springs for the past 22 years and actually attended Coral Springs Middle as a student.
Ms. Marsala is a graduate of Florida Atlantic University and received her Masters from Florida State University in 2000. She is a creative teacher who strives to bring history to life for all of her students.
Her students engage in a number of hands on learning opportunities, including Civil War reenactments, marching like revolutionary war soldiers, dressing up like influential Americans, and taking on the roles of Lewis and Clark in a park adjacent to school.
“One of Ms. Marsala’s goals is to create future leaders in our community and that’s also a high priority for us,” Commissioner Roy Gold said.
Marsala was previously awarded the title of Broward County History Teacher of the Year and State of Florida History Teacher of the Year. Her goal as a teacher is to ensure that all students will understand their civic responsibilities in order to become better informed citizens and ultimately future leaders.
