Lieutenant Joe Russoniello was named the “2005 Firefighter of the Year” in a ceremony held last week at the Heron Bay Marriott. Lieutenant Russoniello has been with the Coral Springs Fire Department for fourteen years, beginning in 1992 as a volunteer firefighter. Lieutenant Russoniello climbed his way through the ranks of our Department, working from Volunteer Firefighter to Volunteer Battalion Chief in a few short years. After the Coral Springs Fire Department switched to a paid service in 2000, Lieutenant Russoniello was immediately promoted to the position of Lieutenant because of his vast supervisory experience as a volunteer. He was given this honorable award for his tireless efforts in creating training programs for our personnel and other local Fire Departments. He is a member of the Urban Search and Rescue Team and was recently deployed to hurricane-ravaged areas of the SE coast. He has taught CSFD members specialized courses and firefighter survival classes. Lieutenant Russoniello is well respected among his peers and co-workers for his dedication to our Department and to the citizens of the City of Coral Springs.
