January 4, 2007: All media is invited to attend our Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Events

The City’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration events will be held on Friday, January 12, sponsored by the Coral Springs Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee and Citibank. This year’s keynote speaker is former Virginia Governor L. Douglas Wilder – the first elected African-American governor in U.S. history.

Student Address – Friday, January 12, 9:30 a.m. Mr. Wilder will address a group of high school and middle school students throughout Broward and some parts of Palm Beach County. This event will take place at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts.

C ommunity Celebration - Friday, January 12, 7 p.m.
The evening celebration will feature music, song, dance and drama; as well as artwork by local students. This is an uplifting event that is sure to please all ages! The event will be held at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts. Tickets for the Community Celebration are $5 for adults and $1 for children 17 and under. Tickets may be purchased at the Center for the Arts Box Office. To contact the Box Office for directions or other information, call 954-344-5990.

Student Workshop – Monday, January 15, 9 a.m. A Student Workshop has been planned on Monday, January 15th at the Center for the Arts from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. for high school and middle school students. This is a day filled with interactive activities and educational sessions to teach the students about the life and works of Dr. King.
