12-28-2007 House Fire Kills Three Dogs

Shortly after 11:00 a.m. this morning, Coral Springs Fire Department crews were called to the scene of a house fire in the 12200 block of NW 31st Drive.  When CSFD units arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from several windows on the south side of the home.  Fire department personnel quickly made entry into the home to locate the fire and search for victims.  The blaze was extinguished within fifteen minutes.  During the search of the home, six small dogs were pulled from inside the smoke filled house.  Three of the dogs were deceased, three were pulled out alive.  A seventh dog was located during a secondary search and was also alive.  All of the dogs were given oxygen, using masks specially designed for pets, and are said to be recovering well.  One male was treated for minor cuts and burns and was released on the scene.  The Coral Springs Fire Investigations Division and the State Fire Marshals Office are still on the scene attempting to determine the cause of the fire.  The Broward County Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family with housing and clothing needs.
