July 5, 2007: Commission recognizes student who promoted voted turnout

The City Commission recognized Selena Fogel, a recent Coral Glades High School graduate for addressing government officials with an informative proposal to increase awareness on improving voter turnout.

Fogel’s proposal included to create a voting committee at all school levels to address current events in the nation and local government, as well as making voter registration a high school requirement to graduate.

As a result of her letter to Senator Mel Martinez, she received a college scholarship.

“Voter turnout is a passion for us here at the City and a special passion of mine, and I really appreciate your efforts,” Mayor Scott Brook said.
