October 1, 2008: Merrill Lynch recognizes City’s quality achievements with $7,500 gift to Community Chest

At the October 7, 2008 City Commission meeting, Joe Holsinger, Merrill Lynch Managing Director for the greater Ft. Lauderdale market, will present $7,500 to the Coral Springs Community Chest. The gift is in recognition of the City’s quality accomplishments, which mirror those achieved by Merrill Lynch Credit Corp. in Florida.

Coral Springs is a 2007 recipient of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the first state or local government to receive this presidential honor for performance excellence. The City is also a two-time Florida Governor’s Sterling Award recipient, honored in 1993 and in 1997. Likewise, Merrill Lynch Credit Corp. received the Malcolm Baldrige Award in 1997 and was a Sterling Award recipient in 1996.

“Merrill Lynch is making a contribution to the Coral Springs Community Chest in acknowledgement of the City’s outstanding recognition as a Malcolm Baldrige award recipient,” Holsinger said. “The Community Chest is a worthy cause, and responsible citizenship is an important principle in our organization. We look forward to our continuing partnership with the community in light of the recent relocation of our offices to One Charter Place in Downtown Coral Springs.”

The Coral Springs Community Chest is a non-profit community service organization benefiting children, the elderly, the disabled and residents in need. “Merrill Lynch has been one of our biggest supporters, and we are thrilled to receive this generous gift,” Community Chest Chair Janice Zaitz said. “The Community Chest has already distributed $1.1 million since its inception, and this gift will be given out this year to help more community members in need.”

“It is an honor to share our quality achievements with Merrill Lynch Credit Corp.,” City Manager Michael S. Levinson said. “We appreciate their significant investment in the betterment of our community.”

About the Coral Springs Community Chest: Since 1988, the Community Chest has funded organizations that have a presence or program serving Coral Springs residents. The Community Chest is a community service organization funded by City grants, corporate and individual donations, special events and promotions. It is a completely volunteer organization with 98 percent of the funds reinvested back into programs that benefit residents.
