In memory of veterinarian Dr. Steven Paul, the City of Coral Springs will hold a naming dedication ceremony at the dog park on Monday, October 13 at 5 p.m. The park will now be called Dr. Steven G. Paul Dog Park, as he was the driving force in its creation. Dr. Paul passed away on February 7, 2007 after a battle against cancer.
The dog park, which opened in 1996, is the first in the state of Florida. In 1987, Dr. Paul also founded Coral Springs Dog Day Run in an effort to raise funds for pet-related charities. He conducted numerous training sessions with the Coral Springs Fire and Police Department and gave hundreds of hours of service to the City because of his love for animals.
The Dr. Steven G. Paul Dog Park is free and open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. to all well-behaved dogs and responsible owners. The park features large and small dog fenced areas, agility training equipment, a watering area and a paved running path. The park is located at 2915 Sportsplex Drive.
