January 13, 2009: City’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebrations begin January 15 Media is welcome to interview Keynote Speaker

The City’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration events will be held on Thursday, January 15, sponsored by the Coral Springs Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee and Citibank, as the Title Sponsor. This year’s keynote speaker is Thomas W. Dortch, Jr., Chairman Emeritus of 100 Black Men of America

Business Luncheon – Thursday, January 15, noon
A business luncheon featuring Mr. Dortch will take place at the Coral Springs Marriott at Heron Bay. Tickets are priced at $40, with tables of ten available for $400. Tickets will be available at City Hall in the Mall at the Coral Square Mall and City Hall, located at 9551 West Sample Road.

Community Celebration - Thursday, January 15, 7 p.m.
The evening celebration will feature music, song, dance and drama; as well as art and literary work submitted by local students. This is an uplifting event that is sure to please all ages, with a keynote address by Mr. Dortch. The event will be held at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts. Tickets for the Community Celebration are $5 for adults and $1 for children 18 and under. Tickets may be purchased at City Hall, City Hall in the Mall or the Center for the Arts Box Office. VIP Reception – Thursday, January 15, 9 p.m.
A reception will follow the Community Celebration. This is an excellent opportunity to meet and talk with Dortch in person. Reception tickets are $20 and are available for purchase at City Hall in the Mall at the Coral Square Mall and City Hall, located at 9551 West Sample Road.

Student Diversity Symposium – Monday, January 19, 9 a.m.
A Student Diversity Symposium has been planned on Monday, January 19 at the Center for the Arts from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. for high school and middle school students. This is a day filled with interactive activities and educational sessions to teach the students about the life and works of Dr. King. The program will be facilitated by the Fort Lauderdale Children’s Theater. Students need to pre-register for this event through their school or by calling Marie at 954-344-1834 .
