During the Tuesday, July 6, Commission meeting, City officials recognized four of our Coral Springs police officers for rescuing an elderly woman who was trapped inside her vehicle underwater. On June 3, 2010, officers Bob Cherry, Derek Fernandes, Gil Monzon, and Pat Madison arrived at the scene where Eva Rubino’s car was almost completely submerged. The officers entered the canal and formed a human chain and pulled Rubino to safety.
“We know that every day you report for work prepared to risk your lives, but this time you saved someone’s life – that’s huge,” Vice Mayor Claudette Bruck said. “Thank you so much for saving a human life. That’s much greater than anything any of us have done. We’re very proud of you.”
The City Commission then recognized the Coral Springs Woman’s Club 40th anniversary. The club is dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through community service with an ongoing focus in the areas of arts, conservation, education, home life, international affairs and public affairs.
