August 9, 2010: City promotes sustainability this September

The City will be promoting sustainability during the month of September with a series of lectures. Guest speakers will discuss environmental topics, such as landscaping, recycling and water conservation.

The concept was developed by the Customer Involved Government Committee’s Green Study Circle that took place last year.  Participants came up with suggestions of how to promote a greener environment including public outreach and education. During “Sustainable September” guest speakers will give some insightful information on how to live more sustainably.

The following lectures are scheduled:

· “How can I make my home more sustainable?”
Wednesday, September 1 at 7 p.m.at Sartory Senior Center, 10150 N.W. 29th St.
Guest speakers include Olga Alvarez from US Green Building Council and a presentation by FPL.

· “Sustainable Landscaping”
Wednesday, September 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Whispering Woods Park, 7701 Wiles Road.
Guest speakers include Coral Springs Environmental Coordinator Mark Westfall, Cindy Davidson from Youth Environmental Alliance and a representative of the Coral Springs Garden Club

· “Solid Waste, Recycling and Trash to Energy”
