August 18, 2010: Commissioner Boccard and Commissioner Powers acquitted and will return to office

On Wednesday, August 18, Judge Fred Berman dismissed the case against Commissioner Vincent Boccard and Commissioner Tom Powers, acquitting them from Sunshine Law violation charges that were filed on March 29, 2010. Governor Crist is expected to reinstate them shortly, upon which both will resume office immediately.

“I’m glad for Commissioners Boccard and Powers. I’m also glad for the City. I look forward to regrouping and getting back to business as usual,” City Manager Michael Levinson said.  “Many thanks to Ted Mena and Bill Stradling for their valued service.”

Commissioner Boccard’s seat is up for election on November 2, 2010, while Powers’ term expires in 2012.

“I am elated not just for my colleagues, but for our community.  These men are good men, good leaders and they have always put this community first,” Mayor Scoot Brook said. “I am eager to resume our work together and continue to fulfill our City’s mission to be the best place to live, work and raise a family.”
