On Saturday, September 25, 2009 CSPD was called and advised by the caller that they had just witnessed a vehicle burglary in the 10300 Block of NW 7th Street. Officers responded to the scene and quickly identified the suspect. At the same time Detective Dorow was monitoring his radio and responded to the scene to offer assistance. Upon seeing the officers approach the suspect fled on foot. Detective Dorow observed the suspect’s location and bailed out of his car to give chase. With Detective Dorow gaining on him, the suspect decided to jump into the canal south of 6th Ct. and swim to the other side. Knowing that officers in the area were on foot and would not be able to quickly respond to the other side of the canal, Detective Dorow shed his shirt and radio, jumped into the canal to continue to pursue the subject. Once on the other side, Detective Dorow began to search for the suspect who was no longer in sight. A short time later Detective Dorow located that suspect behind a residence and took him into custody. As a result of Detective Dorow’s initiative and dogged pursuit of the suspect, the burglary was quickly solved and numerous pieces of stolen property were recovered. Detective Dorow’s relentless effort is truly noteworthy and as such he is being awarded the Exceptional Police Initiative Commendation.
