On August 5, 2009 Officer Coker responded to a suspicious incident called in by an off-duty BSO deputy. Upon responding Officer Coker was able to identify the suspect and detain him for attempting to enter the Deputy’s neighbor’s locked vehicle by checking the door handles. Post Miranda, Officer Coker received a full confession from the suspect, identified stolen property on his person and further identified multiple other victims of car burglaries. The arrestee then directed Officer Coker to multiple additional locations within the neighborhood where he attempted burglaries. Further investigation by Officer Coker’s led to information that two additional suspects were criminally active within the area, resulting in their arrest as well. As a result of Officer Coker’s extensive investigative effort and coordination with his fellow officers, 3 burglars were arrested and stolen property was return to victims. It is for these actions Officer Coker is being awarded the Exceptional Police Initiative Award.
