While patrolling in an unmarked vehicle, Officer Hosler noticed a suspicious black Ford Explorer parked and backed-in behind the Chevron gas station on University and Royal Palm. Officer Hosler followed the suspect vehicle into Tamarac where the vehicle pulled into a parking lot along University Drive. Two subjects were removed from the vehicle, separated and detained for a warrants check. Their stories were compared and both were not credible. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a loaded .25 cal semi automatic pistol, 11 grams of marijuana, a 6” blade filet knife and two bandanas. Upon arrest and further investigation both suspects revealed that they were ‘Blood’ gang members. Based on the contents of the vehicle there is no question that these individuals were prepared to carry out a potentially violent crime. Officer Hosler’s keen observation and investigative skills prevented a crime that could have had deadly consequences. It is for this reason he is being awarded the Exceptional Police Initiative Commendation.
