Coral Springs has once again received excellent crime rate rankings for 2010 according to CQ Press, an independent publisher focusing on governmental topics. For the fourth consecutive year, Coral Springs’ crime rate ranked lowest in Florida, dropping from 48th in 2009 to 43rd in the nation for 2010. Crime rankings were based on FBI crime data for 2009.
In Fiscal Year 2009, the City’s crime rate decreased two percent (2%) and is lower than other large neighboring cities, Broward County, the state, and the nation.
"Public safety is a highest priority in our organization and our community,” City Manager Erdal Donmez said. “Our Police Department continues to do an outstanding job and strives to provide a safe environment for our families and businesses.”
In the current City Crime Rankings publication, published annually for the past 17 years, CQ Press compiled FBI figures for 400 cities with populations of 75,000 or more and analyzed reported crimes, including murder, rape, aggravated assault, robbery, burglary and theft.
