During the Tuesday, March 8, City Commission meeting, officials recognized J.P. Taravella High School teacher Beth Goldman for receiving the distinction of being one of six finalists for the “2012 Teach of the Year” for Broward County Public Schools. Goldman has been teaching at Taravella for 30 years.
“It’s been a pleasure teaching at Taravella,” Goldman said. “I love teaching debate and I’ve taught some of the most amazing students.’
Goldman’s love and passion for language and communication has led her to be the longest lasting debate coach in Broward County, and is the reason the J. P. Taravella debate program has grown from one single class to five full debate classes with four levels. Goldman gives her Saturdays for the team and holds programs after school to help students with their fear of public speaking.
“We appreciate all that you’ve done in our community,” Mayor Roy Gold said.
