A south Florida sports agent turned himself in to the Broward County Sheriff’s on March 7, 2011 on charges of grand theft.
Rodney Fernandez, 31 of Coral Springs is being held at the Broward County Main Jail for stealing over $305,000 from Anaheim Angels first baseman Kendrys Morales.
Fernandez was hired in November 2008 by Hendricks Sports Management to help recruit and serve professional baseball players. Between 2008 and 2009 Fernandez conducted numerous financial transactions from Morales Pro Management Resources Account without his permission. In December 2009, Pro Management Resources contacted Morales due to several large transactions from his account by Fernandez. Morales’ attorney contacted the Coral Springs Police Department and advised that Fernandez did not have permission to remove money from his client’s account. The Coral Springs Police Department conducted an investigation and determined that there was probable cause for Fernandez’s arrest for grand theft greater than $100,000, which is a first-degree felony.
As a result of the charges Hendricks Sports Management terminated Fernandez.
Fernandez is being held at Broward County Main Jail on a $10,000 bond.
