Exceptional Police Initiative Commendation – Officer Jesse Perez

In June of 2010, Officer Perez was assigned to an unmarked vehicle reference to numerous vehicle burglaries that had been occurring at our city parks, day cares, and fitness centers. During his assignment, Officer Perez conducted surveillance at Betti Stradling Slide and Glide Park. While on surveillance Officer Perez observed a black, newer model Chevy Impala with extremely dark tint, enter the Slide and Glide parking lot. This raised Officer Perez’s suspicion and he continued to watch the vehicle. Approximately two- three minutes later, the vehicle exited the parking lot and headed towards Wiles Road-westbound. At this point, Officer Perez followed the vehicle and obtained a tag number. Officer Perez continued to follow the vehicle, which led him to Innopet Dog Park, which is another highly targeted area for burglars. The subject in the vehicle approached a parked vehicle and entered it without the owner’s permission. The subject contacted by Officer Perez and after an investigation was arrested. Found in the subject’s vehicle was property from several burglaries.
