Coral Springs Art in Public Places: Call for Artists Sculpture on Sample

Are you a working public artist who wants to increase your exposure? If so, the Coral Springs’ Public Art Program is issuing a call to sculptural artists to submit their artwork for a four-month, outdoor display on Sample Road. The Art Committee will select up to ten sculptures to display along Sample Road between University Drive and Coral Springs Drive. The display will be open to the public on January 9, 2012. From these pieces of artwork, the committee will then select up to two sculptures to purchase and keep on permanent display.

Tax dollars are not used to purchase public art in Coral Springs. All financing comes from a fee charged to developers who have projects greater than 12,500 square feet. Since 2004, eleven sculptures have been purchased for permanent display in the City of Coral Springs through the Public Art Fund.

This year’s theme for the “Sculpture on Sample” program is to promote the City’s mission statement: “To be the nation’s premier community in which to live, work and raise a family.”

Artists may obtain a copy of the “Call to Artists” by emailing Laura Atria at latria@coralsprings.org or online at www.CoralSprings.org/PublicArt. Deadline for submissions is Friday, October 28, 2011. For more information, please call 954-344-1162.
