Upon responding to the residence of a resident known to be the victim of a domestic violence to perform a welfare check, Officer Stasnek found the female lying in the entry way in a pool of her own blood. Based on the large amount of blood and location of the wound she deduced that it might be an arterial bleed. Without regard for her own safety, Officer Stasnek immediately applied pressure to the wound in an effort to stop the bleeding. Doing so exposed her to large amounts of the victim’s blood. The victim was ultimately transported via to the hospital where she later recovered. It was determined that Officer Stasnek’s expedient medical attention contributed to the victim’s survival.
