While distributing ‘To Catch a Thief’ flyers in the parking lot of Bally’s Fitness TAI Guzman observed the female driver of a Silver 4-Door vehicle remain in the parked vehicle while a male passenger took khaki shorts and a Hawaiian shirt from the vehicle trunk and began to change his clothes in the parking lot. Believing the activity to be suspicious, TAI Guzman called the activity in and noted the tag on the vehicle. Shortly thereafter a shoplifting call was placed by JC Penny’s Loss Prevention stating that a male wearing a Hawaiian shirt and leaving in a Silver 4-Door vehicle had just stolen over $5,000 worth of jewelry. TAI Guzman responded to the scene and advised Officers that the TAG he recorded was registered to a female with a history of burglary vehicle. A Driver’s License photo was obtained of the female and TAI Guzman was able to positively identify her as the driver of the Silver, 4-Door vehicle. Through further investigation the male occupant in the Hawaiian Shirt was located and positively identified by TAI Guzman. With this information Detectives were able to link the suspects to numerous additional thefts throughout the County totaling over $15,000 in losses. The suspects were ultimately apprehended and confessed to all of their crimes. In addition, all of the jewelry from the department stores was able to be recovered.
