While on routine patrol Officer Gasper observed an unknown juvenile walking down the street carrying a book bag. Officer Gasper remained in the area to see where the juvenile was going. Just a few minutes later Officer Gasper observed the juvenile on an orange bicycle just a short distance away. Officer Gasper stopped the juvenile to ask why he was not in school and how he obtained the bicycle. The juvenile gave several deceptive stories; however, as a result of Officer Gasper’s diligence and effective interviewing skills the juvenile ultimately admitted that he stole the bicycle from the patio of a local apartment. As the residents were not at home at the time of the burglary, Officer Gasper was able to return the bicycle to the home before they ever recognized it was missing. The suspect was ultimately charged with burglary residence and grand theft.
