In late 2011 Officers’ Alfin, Elkin, Andrade and Guard were conducting unmarked surveillance in an effort to combat residential burglaries. During this time Officer Guard observed a suspicious vehicle and alerted the other officers. Officer Andrade observed the car backed into a residence. The officers focused their surveillance efforts on the vehicle. Shortly thereafter the vehicle left the residence allowing officers to call tag into dispatch. Dispatch confirmed that plate was registered to a Hertz rental vehicle. As Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver began to make evasive maneuvers and eventually progressed to such a high rate of speed the officers terminated the pursuit. Officers later located the vehicle at the onramp to eastbound Interstate-595. After removing the four occupants from the vehicle, over $9,000 worth of stolen property was located in the vehicle as well as on the person of the arrestees. The property was identified as stolen from a home in Coral Springs and returned to the owner. The occupants of the vehicle were charged with burglary, grand theft and the driver was also charged with fleeing and eluding.
