06-04-2012 CSFD Mourns the Loss of Past Member

Coral Springs - Lieutenant Ralph F. Troino, 89, of Coral Springs, passed away

June 3, 2012. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army/Air Force during WW

II. He retired from the United States Post Office after 34 years of dedicated service.

Ralph volunteered for over 20 years teaching children fire safety at Safety Town for the

City of Coral Springs.

Ralph F. Troino joined the Coral Springs Volunteer Fire Department on February

9, 1984. He was assigned to the Fire Prevention Bureau, and served there until January 1,

2008. His service to the community spans almost 24 years. During those years, “Pops”, as

he was affectionately called, served the community with a special dedication to the safety

of our children. At every Safety Town event, at every Fire Prevention Month school

event, Ralph was there. In his career, he positively impacted nearly every single preschool

and elementary student with a variety of fire safety messages. An average year

would see Ralph presenting safety messages to over 2,400 children in Coral Springs.

The highest reward he could receive was to learn that one of those students knew what to

do in an actual emergency, whether to dial 911, “stop, drop and roll” or “get out and stay

out”.

In 1987, Ralph was appointed Fire Prevention Lieutenant. In 1992, he was

awarded the department’s Firefighter of the Year Award.
