At approximately 5:38 p.m. yesterday evening, the Coral Springs Police Department and Coral Springs Fire Department responded to the 9700 block of NW 33 Street in reference to a structure fire.
Upon arrival, heavy smoke was observed coming from the structure. Personnel from the police department and fire department immediately began evacuating the building. As the fire department began searching the area of the building where the fire was located, they discovered an unconscious female inside one of the suites. The female was removed from the building and treated for smoke inhalation by the fire department. The female was transported to Broward Health Coral Springs in serious condition.
Preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 5: 20 p.m., a male entered the suite and asked the female employee for prescription drugs. When the female employee told the male that they do not stock prescription drugs in the office, the male became enraged and began physically attacking the female employee. During the attack the male sexually assaulted and choked the female employee before she lost consciousness.
The male suspect is described as Middle Eastern or Hispanic, mid to late 20’s, 5-11”, thin build, dark hair, dark eyes, groomed eyebrows, wearing a dark t-shirt and blue jean pants.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
