Officials from Providencia, Chile will host Coral Springs Mayor Roy Gold at the International Quest for Excellence in Local Government conference on August 26 - 28, 2012. This forum was created to discuss the challenges of improving local governments in order to adequately meet the specific demands of residents.
Mayor Roy Gold will represent the Uniting States and will present on Coral Springs’ continuous quality journey that led to the City’s receipt of the Governors Florida Sterling Award, as well as the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for Performance Excellence. The trip will be entirely funded by the City of Providencia.
“It is an honor to be a guest of the City of Providencia and to exchange the ideas and best practices that enable both cities to offer the finest quality of life to their residents and businesses,” Mayor Gold said.
The City's partnership with Providencia, Chile was an initiative in Coral Springs' 2010 Business Plan. Similar to Coral Springs' receipt of the Malcolm Baldrige Award, Providencia has earned International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification for 21 quality processes in the areas of environmental systems, security and occupational health.
Providencia City officials originally visited the City of Coral Springs in May of 2010. At that time both cities entered into an official Letter of Understanding to engage in a business exchange to improve the process of municipal service delivery to their respective residents. Since the signing of the Letter of Understanding, Providencia city officials have traveled to Coral Springs several times to discuss the policies and actions that lead to Coral Springs being the only recipient of the coveted Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award with elected officials and staff.
